LOCATION:
Elsa's
Kopje is a soft landing in the wild: when you step off
the plane you are greeted by a warm, gentle breeze,
carrying the scent of the open plains and bush which
surrounds you. Elsa's Kopje is almost invisible
to the eye as you approach the hill. It blends in to
the rocky crags and bush, built close to the site of
George Adamson's original camp where George and
Joy Adamson released Elsa the lioness into the wild,
the story made famous in the film Born Free.
About Elsa's Kopje
Meru National Park
Meru National Park is an untamed expanse, for many years
the best kept secret amongst Kenya safari travelers
passionate about beauty, peace and true wilderness.
Setting out on foot, you feel part of the landscape,
vibrating with hidden sights and unfamiliar sounds.
You become aware of underground dwellers, amazing insect
life with sophisticated rites and rituals; you follow
the fresh tracks of animals... then suddenly you are
standing stock still, watching a Lesser Kudu watching
you, or Giraffe testing the air only yards away from
you and your guide.
Here you will encounter more diversity of species than
in any other park in East Africa. Meru is famous for
its birdlife with forest and riverine as well as the
arid species. Regular sightings include elephant, white
rhino; also Eland, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Grevy's
Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Grant's Gazelle, Greater
and Lesser Kudu, and their predators: lion, leopard,
cheetah and hyena
Accommodation
Your cottage is the ultimate "room with a view',
built from stone with a thatched roof.
The rooms are open fronted, enveloping you in the warm
soft breezes and the incredible light reflecting off
the plains that surround Mughwango Hill.
Every cottage is coolly elegant with generous double
or twin beds, romantically swathed in netting and modern
en-suite bathrooms to luxuriate in: the baths or showers
are built as features of the rocky hillside.
Children are welcome and a double cottage, set away
from the other rooms, gives young guests space to have
fun.
Early mealtimes and baby-listening services are available.
During the day, experienced guides know how to make
the safari exciting and informative for kids.
Across a suspension bridge, two cottages are set apart,
ideal for couples: peaceful, private and very romantic...
Activity options include: a bush breakfast out on the
plains, sundowners at the hippo pools amongst silhouetted
doum palms, line fishing, exploring the park on foot.
Back at Elsa's Kopje, enjoy sundowners at the local
'Hardrock Café' a natural rock plateau behind
the lodge. Swim in the horizon pool formed from a cleft
in the rocks.
