LOCATION:
Shompole Mara Camp is located on the southern end of Ol Kinyei
ranch between the Masai Mara Game Reserve and the Loita Plains.
A seasonal camp in situ not longer than 4 months at a time,
Shompole Mara Camp has the incomparable benefit of being in an
exclusive area for walking and game drives during the day and
night. The Ol Kinyei area is a Maasai Group Ranch of
approximately 200,000 acres. The southern part of the ranch
consists mainly of classic open plains with scattered acacia
savannah, quartzite hills and a few perennial springs. The Camp
is an hour and a half's drive from the nearest town of Narok,
and approximately one hours' drive from the Siana Springs
airstrip for the twice daily schedules and private charter
flights.
DESCRIPTION:
Shompole Mara Camp itself is in a beautiful grove of fever
trees, overlooking a natural mineral salt lick area, to which
the game animals come. The camp area is locally known as Esinga
and close to the only source of water, a large spring called
Olare Lemuny, which means Rhino Salt Lick in the Maasai
language.
NUMBER OF ROOMS: 6 tents; 5 doubles, 1 twin;
Room Decor:
Extremely tasteful, very spacious, classic safari tents
concentrating on canvas, wood and neutral safari colours. This
tented camp is located in an untouched glade of Acacia trees and
along side a perennial spring. Constructed using
naturally-occurring white quartz stone, pale thatch and other
materials, and using water as a prime feature, each tented room
provides a very shady oasis in this green desert environment.
Room Amenities;
All rooms are en-suite with a flush loo; pull shower plus a
large airy seating area and veranda. With privacy, comfort and
relaxation in mind, each room consists of a cool-pool, informal
sitting areas and a bathroom with a view and a
specially-designed tent which includes vast windows and a high
canopied roof. Extra beds can be added.
Special feature:
Conservation & Wild-life: Ol Kinyei will become the first game
conservancy in the Masai Mara area. The conservancy and
surrounding area is home to many species of animals and bird
life. The Masai Mara is renowned for its outstanding wildlife,
in particular the "big 5" The African 'cats' living around Ol
Kinyei include the leopard, cheetah, lion, civet and genet. The
opportunity to see the enormous elephant, buffalo, rhino and
hippo as well as an abundance of plains game such as the
wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, a host of gazelles plus many more.
Not to forget the night animals (genets, porcupines, aardwolf
etc.). The bird life is also extremely rich and varied. The
wildebeest migration takes place between July and October,
depending on when the rains appear.
FOOD & BEVERAGE FACILITIES:
The main lounge and dining area consists of a high thatch roof
overlooking Mount Shompole and the Rift Valley. Various levels
accommodate seating areas and a lofted recess high in the roof
provides an additional quiet area. Should guests wish to take
meals by their tent, the main pool or in the bush, special
arrangement can be made to provide for their individual needs.

activities take place in the mornings and evenings while the
middle of the day is spent relaxing in the camp to escape the
midday heat.
Walking Safaris: Through the acacia plains, over rocky kopjes
with spellbinding views and along perennial springs. You will
encounter an expanse of wildlife, varied vegetation, fantastic
bird life and an unforgettable experience of being at one with
nature in the Masai Mara..

The camp has a beautiful climate, clear, warm days and cool
nights. The camp is closed in April, May and November.
